Vancouver Island Moulds

Vancouver Island’s mild temperatures and high humidity create the perfect conditions for mould growth year-round. Moisture from rain, coastal air, plumbing leaks, or poor ventilation allows mould to grow in hidden areas such as behind drywall, under flooring, in attics, and crawlspaces. Common mould types found on the Island include Aspergillus, Penicillium, Cladosporium, Alternaria, and Stachybotrys (black mould).

Exposure to mould can impact indoor air quality and may lead to health concerns such as persistent coughing, sinus irritation, headaches, fatigue, worsening asthma symptoms, and allergic reactions—especially in children, seniors, and those with compromised immune systems. Mould can also cause long-term damage to building materials if left untreated.

Because mould is not always visible, professional inspection and moisture control are essential. Addressing leaks quickly, improving ventilation, and removing contaminated materials safely can prevent mould from spreading and help maintain a healthier indoor environment on Vancouver Island.
